The Subtle Ways You Hold Tension In Your Neck & Shoulders All Day Without Realising
You might not notice it while you’re in the middle of your day. You’re moving from one thing to the next. Answering emails. Sitting in meetings. Managing home, work, and everything in between. Nothing feels particularly intense in the moment. But by the time you pause… your body tells a different story.
Your shoulders feel tight. Your neck feels heavy. Your jaw feels a little clenched. And there’s this underlying sense that your body hasn’t really relaxed all day. And you wonder… when did this even start?
In this blog, let’s explore the subtle ways your body holds tension through the day, not because you’re doing anything wrong, but because it’s trying to keep up with everything you’re managing.

It Doesn’t Feel Like Tension When It’s Constant:
One of the reasons this is so easy to miss is because it doesn’t feel like effort. It feels normal. Your body isn’t holding tension in a big, obvious way. It’s doing it quietly. Just enough to stay ready. Just enough to stay in control. Just enough to keep things moving. And when that becomes your baseline, you stop noticing it. Until you finally pause… and realise your body hasn’t really switched off at all.

The Jaw You Didn’t Realise You Were Clenching:
This is one of the most common places tension hides.
When you are focused, thinking, concentrating or maybe even just listening … without realising it, your jaw gently tightens.
Not enough to feel uncomfortable in the moment. But enough to stay engaged for hours.
Over time, that shows up as tightness through your face, headaches, even neck pain that feels unrelated.
What helps isn’t forcing it to relax. It’s simply noticing. Letting your teeth separate slightly. Allowing your jaw to soften when you catch it.
That small release often helps more than you expect.

The Grip That Stays “On” All Day:
This one often surprises people. Holding your phone. Using your mouse. Carrying a bag. Even resting your hands on your keyboard. Your hands are rarely completely relaxed. There’s often just a little bit of grip. A little bit of tension. And it stays there longer than you realise. That constant low-level activation travels up into your forearms, your elbows, even your shoulders. Not enough to feel in the moment… but enough to build.
Softening your grip slightly. Letting your hands fully rest when they can. Switching sides occasionally. These are small changes, but they reduce more load than you’d expect.

The Breathing Pattern That Keeps You “On”:
This is the one that connects everything. When your day is full, your breathing often becomes quicker and more shallow. More into your upper chest. Less into your ribs. And when that happens, your upper body stays more active. Your neck, shoulders, and chest muscles stay slightly engaged, even when you’re not doing anything physically demanding.
So your body stays in the ‘alert’ mode and never quite drops into a fully relaxed state. A slower breath that expands into your ribs changes that. It signals to your system that it can ease off. And often, that’s where the first real sense of release begins.

The Shoulders That Never Quite Drop:
Your shoulders carry more than you realise. They lift slightly when you’re concentrating. They hold when you’re stressed. They stay just a little engaged when you’re sitting or standing for long periods. And because it’s subtle, you don’t notice it building. But by the end of the day, that slight lift turns into heaviness and tightness across the tops of your shoulders and in the neck.
Instead of pulling them back or forcing your posture, try something simpler like a posture reset and desk based movements.

MEET SWATI

Hi there!
I am Swati, an Executive Mum Power Coach & Certified Posture Expert

I help mums of young kids working in high-stress executive jobs manage back, neck, and nerve pain, even with low energy, brain fog, and little time to spare. My proven system delivers real relief without stealing hours from your already packed day. The result? More productive professionals at work and guilt-free mums who can be fully present with their kids, instead of being sidelined by pain.

My passion comes from personal experience. I’ve been where you are: in pain, overwhelmed, and exhausted. After two pregnancies in three years, juggling my kids, housework, and a demanding job, I was stuck in a constant cycle of back and nerve pain. The physical load of motherhood added strain to my spine and joints. Meanwhile, adrenal fatigue left me drained, even after 10–12 hours of sleep.

Everyday tasks became a struggle. I was forgetful, foggy, and low on energy. Even as a trained physiotherapist and posture expert, I couldn’t escape my own pain. I stood all day at work, spent evenings on the laptop, rocked my kids to sleep, sat through endless meetings, traveled frequently ... I’ve been through it all.

I kept my pain hidden at work, afraid to speak up. I felt like a fraud, someone who coached others on relief strategies but couldn’t find relief herself. I loved my job and my children, but I couldn’t give 100% to either. Pain was holding me back.

One New Year, I made a resolution: to get healthy, not just fix pain, fatigue, or weight. I focused on reducing inflammation, healing my adrenal fatigue, and reclaiming my energy. Slowly but surely, the pain faded. I lost weight, my brain fog cleared, and my energy skyrocketed. Today, my pain is nearly gone. I feel stronger, clearer, and more in control than I have in years.
And now, I want that for you.

I combine professional expertise with lived experience to support other mums like me, those with young kids, high-stress jobs, and no time for complicated health programs. I’ve helped hundreds of women reduce spinal and joint pain, lift their energy, and clear the mental fog that holds them back.

If any of this resonates, you’re not alone. I’ve been there. I got you, mommy!

Let’s get you feeling strong, confident, and fully present at work and at home.
Are you ready to start? Curious about how this works? Just ask.

Let's DO THIS!
xx Swati
