Can Tight Neck Muscles Cause Cervicogenic Headaches?
As an executive mum balancing a high-stress job and managing a busy household, headaches may seem like just another challenge in your already packed day. But did you know that those persistent headaches could be linked to tight neck muscles? If you're already dealing with back, neck, and nerve pain along with brain fog and fatigue, understanding this connection can be key to better pain management and overall well-being. In this blog, we will explore how tight neck muscles can lead to headaches and what that means for you as an executive mum.

Tight neck muscles can cause headaches. known as Cervicogenic Headaches. The muscles in your neck, particularly the suboccipital muscles at the base of your skull, can become tight due to poor posture, stress, orlong hours spent sitting or standing at a desk. When these muscles are strained or tense due to a spasm, they can put pressure on nearby nerves, leading to irritation or compression of the nerves, thereby giving rise to cervicogenic headaches.

For executive mums, the combination of long work hours at a desk, stress from high-pressure tasks, and constant multitasking can create the perfect environment for developing tight neck muscles. If you find yourself hunching over a laptop or straining your neck while looking at your phone, you are more likely to develop muscle tightness that triggers headaches.

Some if the common symptoms of a cervicogenic headache are:
  • Pain that starts at the base of the skull and radiates to the forehead or behind the eyes.
  • Stiffness or tenderness in the neck when turning your head or bending forward.
  • Tension across the shoulders and upper back.
  • Throbbing or aching pain that intensifies after long periods of sitting or computer work.
